Welcome back for another action-packed episode of Fur Face Friday! I’m Chuckles, your host for the week. It’s the end of January, which means that the days are getting longer (by almost 2 minutes a day!), I’m starting to feel bad about not taking down my Christmas decorations yet (hey, at least I put them up this year!), and and we’re only a week away from getting to watch a Bill Murray movie marathon featuring an adorable Fur Face named Punxsutawney Phil.

Before we get started, special thanks are in order for CBG, who graciously stepped in to host Fur Face Friday last week after Krabby Paddy experienced technical difficulties. Nice work, CBG!

Also, for those of you who are finding your posts to be a little more “gray” than usual due to FFF being hosted on Oppositelock, just know that we’re working on it, and your floofs are not being ignored.

In case you’re new (in which case, welcome!): Favorites are chosen by one of the Snout Selectors (KrabbyPaddy, mrsfinch, facw, Xyl0c41n3 or Chuckles), entirely on our own whimsy. WHIMSY. However, in the interest of solidarity, we try to select one dog picture and one cat picture (minimum!) each week. Other pets will also, of course, be considered. We love all your rats, bunnies, ferrets and other furry, feathery & finny pals. WE WILL NEVER DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CUTE. As always, we’re happy to dismiss any pictures if you decide you want them taken down at some point.

If you don’t have a pet of your own to feature this week, I highly recommend featuring and linking to any cuties who are available for adoption and looking for a home on any shelter or rescue site. I know I’m not the only one lurking on Petfinder!

In that sharing spirit, if you don’t have a pet but want to participate, drop off your best Internet find of an animal gif or meme or tweet in the comments. The more animal lovers, the merrier:) Speaking of sharing, feel free to share these posts anywhere in the Kinja-verse, because it has been scientifically documented that looking at pictures of cute animals reduces stress.

My husband built a tiny snowman last week with the minor amount of snow we had. Fanny was terrified of it and gave it a wide berth. Once it started to melt she attacked and munched on it. She was pretty brave when it’s icy defenses were down. Alas, poor Frosty, we hardly knew ye.

This is Mr. Toomey as his alter ego, the Shit Demon. You know, just doing regular cat stuff- walking on two legs, turning from a solid into liquid, watching my serial killer movies while I’m at work. I’m covered in bite/scrapes that I am trying to keep from turning gangrenous (yep, I know how bad cat bites can be) because he likes to launch himself thru the air and attack me.

We’re still working on it.

No new pics this week, so I’ll just share my absolute favorite picture of Buster, in which he is greatly enjoying a belly rub:

He’s been so happy this week. He loves being able to move freely aroung the apartment (though Sophie is less than pleased with this development — she was quite enjoying having the run of the place while Buster was stuck in a crate). He always comes running when I go to the bathroom — I think he figures that I’m just sitting there with my hands free so it’s a perfect time to pet him — and hearing him pad down the hall and then seeing him trot into view, tail wagging like a maniac, makes me so happy I’ve actually teared up a couple of times.

And the spring is back in his step when we take walks! He’s still thoroughly put out that we’re taking relatively short ones, but he’s back to trotting happily with his tail wagging and his ears flopping and it’s WONDERFUL. I’ve missed my sweet happy boy so much.

And after next week he’s off motion restriction altogether!

This is my dog Amelia. She’s a 4 year old Maltese mixed with something else, not sure what. My wife and I adopted her about a month ago . She’s adorable!

And this is Cooper. He’s 9 and just as adorable as Amelia.

For some* reason, Bindi and I had a hell of a time getting ourselves moving every morning this week. Thank Dog tomorrow is Saturday and we can sleep in.

*Probably lack of sunlight combined with mourning that I did not get furloughed for the admittedly short lived government shutdown.

In other news, the house of Chuckles has expanded to include a third cat. Her name is Apple, because we found her climbing our apple tree a few months ago. After vet visits and conversations with the landlord, she’s officially part of the family. She’s about 4 months old and very hyper. Olive was not amused, but they’re getting along better now.

Yeah, one of my sister’s friends was more-or-less adopted by a stray/feral cat, who had her second litter a couple months after we had to put my poor little TigerLilly to sleep. These two were a perfect catch.

Mine are about 11ish years old, but I’ve only had them for maybe 4 years. They’ve lived together their whole lives but they aren’t related. A former coworker had to give them up when she got pregnant and the father was allergic to cats.

One of the side benefits, I’ve discovered, of putting out more dishes of seed and food scraps for my increasing amount of birdy visitors is, the very territorial rainbow lorikeets can spread out and thus their numbers rise. Used to be my yard could usually only accomodate 2-3 lorikeets before heck began to be raised.

Of course once the corellas arrive, they want their territory back and the lorikeets return to their hanging feeder.

Plus I have a new feathered friend in the yard - a native crested pigeon!

Now I must run up the street to get some cheap meat to scrap up for the magpies and butcherbirds. I’ve run out of leftovers.

He’s going to be 6 in May, I’m told. So still young, but definitely not a kitten. This may be a behavioral issue due to his previous owners declawing him (no other way to defend himself), or he’s a dumbass who doesn’t know how to play nice. I may never know unless I shell out for a behavior specialist.

I’ve got a couple recommendations, plus a coworker knows a dog behaviorist and is going to talk to her (just in case any of these things translate or she knows someone too).

He can be nice! He likes head bonks and if I make a kissy noise, he puts his head down and lets me kiss his forehead. So there’s a nice boy in there. He’s just... part-time :)

Oh gawd, with three cats, before I, er, get to business, I just slide the door a few times to make noise, because at least 2 of the 3 will come running and want to be in there with me (captive audience with free hands ... purrfect), so I figure give them fair warning. Otherwise, I’ll be alone but deafened by the sound of an indignant cat or two hurling themselves against the door demanding to be let in.

Heh. When I still had a housemate and had to the close the door, Buster refused to come in with me because he was afraid I’d give him a bath, so he’d just stand piteously outside the door and give me such heartbroken, betrayed looks when I came out. Every single time! Now that I live alone I just leave the door open, which he likes much better.
